Surgical First Assistant

Location: Rochdale, Greater Manchester
Pay Rates:

• Standard: £55.24 per hour
• Nights/Saturdays: £61.27 per hour
• Sundays/Bank Holidays: £67.52 per hour

Contract Type: Full-time, with flexible shifts available

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical First Assistant to join a reputable healthcare team in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team, providing essential support to surgeons across various specialties while ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist surgeons during a wide range of operative procedures, including preoperative and postoperative care.
• Prepare surgical instruments, ensuring all equipment is sterile and ready for use.
• Manage haemostasis, wound exposure, and the handling of tissues during surgery.
• Work closely with anaesthetic and theatre teams to ensure smooth surgical procedures.
• Provide detailed documentation of procedures and patient status during operations.
• Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a sterile environment.

Requirements:

• Active registration with the NMC or HCPC.
• Proven experience as a Surgical First Assistant in a busy theatre environment.
• Strong understanding of surgical techniques, patient care, and health & safety guidelines.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively during surgical emergencies.
• Flexibility to cover day, night, weekend, and bank holiday shifts.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in specialised surgical areas, such as general, orthopaedic, or cardiac surgery.
• Knowledge of surgical technologies and advanced monitoring systems.
• Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
