Location: Worthing, West Sussex
Pay Rates:

  • Standard: £55.24 per hour
  • Nights/Saturdays: £61.27 per hour
  • Sundays/Bank Holidays: £67.52 per hour

Contract Type: Full-time, shifts available


Role Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Surgical First Assistant to join a busy theatre team in Worthing, West Sussex. This role offers the chance to work across a wide range of surgical specialities, supporting consultants in delivering safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct surgical assistance, ensuring optimal support for the lead surgeon during procedures.
  • Prepare the operating theatre, including the layout of equipment and instruments before surgery begins.
  • Maintain sterile conditions throughout procedures and manage surgical tools effectively.
  • Assist with haemostasis, tissue handling, and wound closure under clinical supervision.
  • Provide ongoing patient monitoring during surgery, reporting any changes to the surgical or anaesthetic team.
  • Comply with all relevant health and safety guidelines within the theatre environment.

Requirements:

  • Valid NMC or HCPC registration.
  • Proven experience as a Surgical First Assistant in a hospital or surgical clinic.
  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures, theatre etiquette, and patient safety protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure in high-stakes environments.
  • Flexibility to work night shifts, weekends, and bank holidays when required.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working in general surgery, orthopaedics, or other specialist areas.
  • Familiarity with robotic-assisted surgical technology or laparoscopic procedures.
  • Strong focus on continuous professional development (CPD).
