Band 7 Locum MRI Radiographer

Location: Bedford 
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Job Purpose / Overview

  • Deliver a high-quality MRI service within the Imaging Department.

  • Provide specialist radiographic expertise in MRI, ensuring excellent patient care and diagnostic image quality.

  • Act as a senior clinical lead, supporting and supervising junior staff and students.

  • Deputise for the MRI Modality Manager as required.

  • Contribute to service improvement, audits, and departmental development.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

1. Clinical Practice

  • Perform MRI examinations to a high standard, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

  • Justify, plan, and conduct MRI scans in line with IR(ME)R and departmental protocols.

  • Adapt imaging techniques for a wide variety of patient needs and clinical conditions.

2. Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise, mentor, and support junior radiographers and students.

  • Assist with staff training, appraisals, and competency assessments.

  • Act as the senior radiographer on duty when necessary.

3. Quality & Governance

  • Participate in audits, service reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure adherence to departmental SOPs, protocols, and safety standards.

  • Maintain accurate patient records, documentation, and safety checklists.

4. Professional & Multidisciplinary Working

  • Collaborate with radiologists, clinicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures and obtaining informed consent.

  • Maintain professional development, keeping up to date with MRI clinical practice and technology.

5. Operational / Managerial

  • Support day-to-day MRI service operations, including workflow and rota planning.

  • Contribute to risk management, incident reporting, and problem resolution.

  • Assist with service development, new equipment rollout, and operational changes.
