Locum Social Worker – Safeguarding Team (Grade 7/8)

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Locum Social Worker to join the Safeguarding Team. This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday (9:00am – 5:00pm), offered on an initial 3-month contract, with the contract renewable every three months.

You will manage a varied safeguarding caseload of approximately 25 children (subject to change), undertaking statutory assessments, safeguarding interventions and care planning to ensure children receive the right support at the right time. Working within a supportive team, you will play a key role in protecting vulnerable children and achieving positive outcomes for families.

Key Responsibilities

       

  • Manage a complex caseload of children and families within the Safeguarding Team.
       

  • Undertake high-quality Child and Family Assessments, risk assessments and statutory interventions.
       

  • Develop and implement Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP) and Public Law Outline (PLO) plans.
       

  • Prepare comprehensive reports, assessments and court documentation.
       

  • Represent Children’s Services at court hearings, child protection conferences, legal planning meetings and multi-agency forums.
       

  • Apply safeguarding thresholds appropriately and make informed decisions to protect children from harm.
       

  • Maintain accurate and timely case recordings using the council’s children’s recording system.
       

  • Work collaboratively with children, families and partner agencies to deliver effective safeguarding interventions.

About You

You will be an experienced Children’s Social Worker with a strong safeguarding background and excellent knowledge of statutory children’s legislation. You will be confident managing complex cases, undertaking robust assessments and working effectively within a busy frontline safeguarding service.

Requirements

       

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
       

  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding practice, risk assessment and statutory children’s services.
       

  • Excellent understanding of court work, safeguarding thresholds, Public Law Outline (PLO), Child Protection (CP) and Child in Need (CIN) processes.
       

  • Experience completing high-quality statutory assessments and care planning.
       

  • Good knowledge of children’s social care recording systems and accurate case recording.
       

  • Excellent communication, analytical and report-writing skills.
       

  • Relevant Social Work qualification and supporting professional certificates.

Contract & Salary
