Locum Best Interest Assessor (BIA) / DoLS Assessor
Role Overview
We are currently recruiting experienced Best Interest Assessors (BIAs) to join a busy Adult Social Care service on a locum basis. Multiple vacancies are available, offering an excellent opportunity for qualified professionals with expertise in Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessments.
This is a 6-month contract, working 36 hours per week, where you will undertake high-quality Best Interests Assessments to ensure individuals deprived of their liberty receive lawful, person-centred and proportionate care in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake Best Interest Assessments under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
- Assess whether statutory criteria for authorisation are met in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
- Complete high-quality, legally compliant assessment reports within statutory timescales.
- Work collaboratively with care providers, health professionals, families and representatives to ensure individuals’ rights are upheld.
- Provide professional advice on mental capacity, deprivation of liberty and best interests decision-making.
- Maintain accurate case records and assessment documentation.
- Ensure practice reflects current legislation, case law and national guidance.
About You
You will be a qualified Best Interest Assessor with extensive knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and DoLS legislation. You will have excellent assessment, analytical and report-writing skills, together with the ability to work independently while managing a busy assessment workload.
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Nurse or other eligible professional with current professional registration.
- Current Best Interest Assessor (BIA) qualification.
- Proven experience completing DoLS Best Interest Assessments.
- Excellent knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and relevant case law.
- Strong analytical, assessment and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work to statutory deadlines.
- Excellent communication and partnership-working skills.
Contract & Salary
- Job Title: Locum Best Interest Assessor (BIA) / DoLS Assessor
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Contract: 6 Months
- Vacancies: 7 positions available
- Pay Rate: £250 per day
- Pay Band: £25.01–£27.50 (Rate Card Banding)
- Working Pattern: Full-time
