Locum Assistant Team Manager – Adult Social Care

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Team Manager to join an Adult Social Care service on a locum basis. This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (9:00am – 5:00pm), offered on an initial 3-month contract.

This is a key leadership role responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality, strengths-based Adult Social Care services. You will provide operational leadership, supervision and professional support to staff, ensuring adults with care and support needs receive safe, effective and person-centred interventions in accordance with the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities

       

  • Support the day-to-day management and operational leadership of the Adult Social Care team.
       

  • Provide supervision, appraisal, coaching and professional support to staff, promoting high standards of practice.
       

  • Ensure adults with care and support needs are safeguarded in line with the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal.
       

  • Oversee case allocation, workflow management and performance to ensure statutory timescales are achieved.
       

  • Support the implementation of strengths-based, outcome-focused and restorative approaches to practice.
       

  • Work collaboratively with the Service Manager to develop service objectives, operational plans and continuous improvement initiatives.
       

  • Monitor service performance, quality assurance activity and compliance with statutory and local policies.
       

  • Manage delegated budgets and ensure appropriate financial governance.
       

  • Represent Adult Social Care within multi-agency meetings and develop effective partnerships with health, police, housing and voluntary sector organisations.
       

  • Act as an authoriser on behalf of the Supervisory Body for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), where appropriate.
       

  • Deputise for the Service Manager when required and provide leadership across the wider service.
       

  • Contribute to policy development, service improvement and the implementation of best practice across Adult Social Care.

About You

You will be an experienced Adult Social Care professional with proven leadership skills and a strong commitment to strengths-based practice. You will be confident supervising staff, managing performance, leading service improvements and making informed decisions within a complex statutory environment.

Requirements

       

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
       

  • Significant experience within Adult Social Care, including safeguarding and complex case management.
       

  • Previous management or supervisory experience within a statutory Adult Social Care setting.
       

  • Excellent knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding legislation and associated statutory guidance.
       

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing operational performance.
       

  • Strong understanding of strengths-based, person-centred and outcome-focused practice.
       

  • Excellent leadership, communication, organisational and decision-making skills.
       

  • Experience undertaking quality assurance, performance management and service improvement activities.
