Locum Advanced Practitioner – Safeguarding Team 4

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Advanced Practitioner to join Safeguarding Team 4 within Children’s Services on a London Pledge agency rate. This is a full-time locum position working Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm, offered on an initial 6-month contract with the potential for extension.

This role combines the management of a reduced caseload with a key leadership and mentoring function. You will manage approximately 15 children, allowing capacity to provide supervision, guidance and professional support to Social Workers while assisting the Team Manager with the day-to-day operation of the team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner looking to further develop their leadership skills while continuing frontline safeguarding practice.

Key Responsibilities

   
• Manage a complex safeguarding caseload of approximately 15 children.
     

• Provide supervision, mentoring and professional guidance to Social Workers within the team.
     

• Support the Team Manager with case oversight, decision-making and service delivery.
     

• Complete high-quality assessments, care planning and statutory interventions to safeguard children.
     

• Provide advice on complex safeguarding matters, legislation and best practice.
     

• Prepare clear, analytical reports and court documentation where required.
     

• Develop effective working relationships with children, families and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
     

• Ensure accurate, timely and compliant case recording in line with statutory guidance and organisational standards.

About You

You will be an experienced Children’s Social Worker with significant safeguarding experience and a proven ability to support and develop colleagues. You will be confident managing complex cases, supervising staff and working collaboratively with managers to deliver high-quality services for children and families.

Requirements

   
• Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work degree.
     

• Current Social Work England registration.
     

• At least three years’ post-qualifying experience as a permanent Children’s Social Worker.
     

• Previous supervisory or mentoring experience within Children’s Services.
     

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
     

• Ability to manage a complex caseload while supporting the Team Manager and wider team.
     

• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and best practice.

Contract & Salary

• Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday (9:00am – 5:00pm)
     

• Contract: Minimum 6 months with the potential for extension.
     

• Working Pattern: Flexible working is available; however, regular office attendance is expected.
     

• Office Base: Romford Town Hall.
     

• Equipment: Laptop and mobile phone provided for the duration of the assignment and to be returned at the end of the contract.
     

• Pay Rate: London Pledge Agency Rate.
