Locum Social Worker – Safeguarding Team (Grade 7/8)
Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Locum Social Worker to join the Safeguarding Team. This is a full-time, 36-hour per week position with a renewable 3-month contract, offering the opportunity to work within a dedicated Children’s Services team committed to achieving the best outcomes for vulnerable children and families.
The successful candidate will manage a varied safeguarding caseload of approximately 25 children (subject to change), undertaking statutory assessments, managing risk, and progressing plans to ensure children receive the appropriate level of support and protection. You will work collaboratively with partner agencies while ensuring all statutory responsibilities are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a complex safeguarding caseload involving children and families.
- Complete high-quality statutory assessments, risk assessments and child-focused interventions.
- Develop and implement effective Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP) and Public Law Outline (PLO) plans.
- Prepare high-quality reports, assessments and statements for court proceedings where required.
- Represent Children’s Services at strategy meetings, child protection conferences, legal meetings and court hearings.
- Work closely with children, families and multi-agency partners to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes.
- Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive case recordings using the council’s children’s recording system.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with statutory guidance, legislation and local procedures.
About You
You will be an experienced Children’s Social Worker with a strong safeguarding background and excellent knowledge of statutory processes. You will be confident managing complex cases, completing robust assessments, and making informed decisions to safeguard children.
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
- Extensive experience within Children’s Safeguarding Services.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding practice, risk assessment and high-quality statutory assessments.
- Excellent understanding of court work, safeguarding thresholds, Public Law Outline (PLO), Child Protection (CP) and Child in Need (CIN) processes.
- Experience using children’s social care recording systems and maintaining accurate case records.
- Excellent communication, assessment and organisational skills.
- Relevant social work qualifications and supporting professional certificates.
