Social Worker (Standard – Children’s)

Brief Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Children’s Social Worker to join Bracknell Forest Borough Council. You’ll play a key role in assessing and supporting children, young people, and their families, helping to achieve lasting positive outcomes through effective planning and partnership working.

You will work within a dynamic, supportive team environment that values reflective practice, manageable caseloads, and strong multi-agency collaboration. This role is ideal for a practitioner who is passionate about safeguarding and improving the lives of children and young people in Bracknell Forest.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake assessments, care planning, and interventions to meet the individual needs of children and families.
  • Ensure children’s voices are heard, recorded, and acted upon appropriately — promoting life journey work in line with their age and understanding.
  • Work with children, families, and partner agencies to deliver needs-led, outcome-focused support plans.
  • Hold and manage a caseload, maintaining high standards of case recording and decision-making.
  • Apply sound professional judgment to safeguard children in line with statutory responsibilities, guidance, and local thresholds.
  • Collaborate with multi-agency partners, including education, health, and voluntary sector professionals, to deliver coordinated services.
  • Identify and manage risk while promoting resilience and independence in families.
  • Participate in regular reflective supervision and contribute to a learning culture within the team.
  • Ensure all casework and documentation complies with the council’s policies, procedures, Data Protection, and GDPR requirements.
  • Promote equality, inclusion, and diversity in all areas of practice.

About You

You are a skilled and compassionate Social Worker with a strong understanding of children’s social care legislation, safeguarding frameworks, and family support principles. You are confident working independently but also value collaboration and teamwork.

You will bring excellent assessment and analytical skills, an ability to build effective relationships with families and professionals, and a commitment to ensuring that every child’s voice is central to your work. Experience working with children with disabilities is desirable but not essential — the service will support you in developing specialist knowledge in this area.

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience of working within Children’s Services, ideally in safeguarding, assessment, or family support.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance, policies, and thresholds affecting children’s social care.
  • Excellent assessment and analytical skills, with the ability to develop needs-led support plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with children, families, and professionals.
  • Commitment to reflective practice, learning, and professional development.
  • Experience of working with children with disabilities (desirable, but not essential).

Contract & Salary

  • Job Type: Locum
  • Location: Bracknell Forest Borough Council
  • Service Area: Children’s Social Care
  • Contract Length: 3 months (with potential for extension)
  • Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience
  • Working Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid / Office-based as required
