We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child and Family Worker to join Coventry City Council on a locum basis. This role plays a vital part in supporting children, young people, and families to achieve positive outcomes, strengthen family relationships, and improve overall wellbeing.

As part of the Children’s Services team, you will work closely with social workers and partner agencies to provide early help, practical support, and intervention to families in need. This role is primarily office-based, with an expectation to be in the office around four days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with children, young people, and families to identify needs and provide practical, emotional, and educational support.
  • Assist social workers in implementing child in need, child protection, and care plans.
  • Undertake home visits and direct work with families to build trust and develop effective working relationships.
  • Provide early help interventions to prevent the escalation of issues and support families to build resilience.
  • Support parents and carers in developing parenting skills, routines, and strategies to promote children’s safety and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with schools, health services, and other community partners to coordinate holistic support for families.
  • Assist with assessments and contribute to written reports for reviews, case conferences, and multi-agency meetings.
  • Encourage and support the participation of children and young people in decisions affecting their lives.
  • Promote positive outcomes by empowering families to access community resources and services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records in line with council and professional standards.

About You

You are an empathetic, practical, and proactive professional with experience supporting children and families in a social care or early help setting. You bring excellent communication skills, patience, and resilience, with the ability to engage effectively with families from diverse backgrounds. You are passionate about making a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children, young people, and families in a social care, education, or community support setting.
  • Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and safeguarding principles.
  • Strong understanding of Children Act 1989 and Working Together to Safeguard Children guidance.
  • Ability to carry out direct work with children and families in both home and community environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain accurate case records and prepare reports.
  • Collaborative approach to multi-agency working.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in service delivery.
  • Ability to work flexibly, with four days per week office attendance.
