Adults Social Worker – Mental Health & Learning Disabilities

Brief Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced and motivated Adults Social Worker to join the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Team at North Lincolnshire Council. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a difference in the lives of adults with complex mental health needs and learning disabilities through high-quality, person-centred social work practice.

You will play an integral role in assessing needs, coordinating care, and promoting independence, ensuring all interventions are in line with statutory frameworks and best practice standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake Care Act 2014 assessments to identify the needs, strengths, and outcomes for adults with mental health needs or learning disabilities.
  • Complete Mental Capacity Act (MCA) assessments and Best Interest (BI) decisions where appropriate, ensuring compliance with legislation and policy.
  • Carry out Deprivation of Liberty in the Community (DoLS/DoL) assessments in line with legal requirements.
  • Develop and implement person-centred care and support plans that promote independence, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Undertake reviews of existing care and support packages, ensuring services remain appropriate, proportionate, and outcome-focused.
  • Work closely with adults, carers, advocates, and professionals from health, housing, and voluntary sectors to coordinate holistic support.
  • Participate in safeguarding enquiries, ensuring adults are protected from abuse and neglect in line with the Care Act 2014.
  • Provide professional advice and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, case discussions, and planning processes.
  • Prepare and present detailed, evidence-based reports for case reviews and, where necessary, court proceedings.
  • Promote a strengths-based and person-centred approach to social work practice, empowering individuals to achieve their goals.

About You

You are a compassionate and confident social worker with solid experience in adult social care, particularly within mental health and learning disability services. You bring a sound understanding of statutory frameworks and are skilled in assessment, care planning, and safeguarding. You work well under pressure, handle complex cases effectively, and are passionate about improving outcomes for adults and their families.

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience working within Adult Social Care, specifically in Mental Health and Learning Disabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Safeguarding Adults procedures, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
  • Experience in conducting assessments, reviews, and Best Interest decisions.
  • Excellent report writing and analytical skills, with attention to legal and evidential requirements.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage a complex caseload.
  • Experience with court work, or willingness to undertake this as part of the role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to multi-agency working.
  • Commitment to person-centred, strengths-based practice and continuous professional development.
