Brief Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Adults Social Worker to join Middlesbrough Borough Council on a 3-month locum contract. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of adults across Middlesbrough by providing high-quality social work interventions that promote independence, dignity, and wellbeing.
You will work as part of a supportive Adult Social Care team, undertaking assessments, care planning, and reviews in line with the Care Act 2014 and safeguarding frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake Care Act 2014 assessments to identify needs, strengths, and desired outcomes for adults requiring care and support.
- Develop and review person-centred care and support plans that promote independence and choice.
- Work collaboratively with individuals, carers, families, and partner agencies to coordinate effective, holistic care.
- Carry out Safeguarding Adults enquiries in line with statutory requirements and local procedures.
- Ensure individuals’ voices are central to decision-making, promoting dignity, inclusion, and empowerment.
- Support adults to access appropriate services, including housing, health, and community resources.
- Maintain accurate case records, assessments, and reports in accordance with council policies and professional standards.
- Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and training to maintain and develop professional competence.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of adult social care services through collaboration and feedback.

Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
- Proven post-qualified experience within Adult Social Care.
- Comprehensive understanding of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Safeguarding Adults procedures.
- Experience carrying out Care Act assessments, reviews, and safeguarding work.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload efficiently within statutory timescales.
- Commitment to strengths-based and person-centred practice.
- Collaborative approach to multi-agency working.
- Flexibility to work within a hybrid model as required by the service.
