Social Worker – Family Safeguarding
Brief Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and committed Social Worker to join the Family Safeguarding Team at Dudley Council on a 3-month locum contract. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a supportive, multi-disciplinary team working to protect vulnerable children and support families to make sustainable, positive change.
You will undertake high-quality assessments and interventions to ensure children are safeguarded and families receive the right support at the right time.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload including Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Looked After Children (LAC) cases within the Family Safeguarding model.
- Undertake comprehensive assessments and develop outcome-focused care plans in accordance with statutory requirements and local procedures.
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, and partner agencies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
- Deliver evidence-based interventions to help families reduce risk and strengthen resilience.
- Contribute to and attend child protection conferences, core groups, and statutory reviews, ensuring timely and accurate recording of all work.
- Prepare high-quality analytical reports for court, case conferences, and internal panels as required.
- Work closely with colleagues in health, education, housing, and other agencies to deliver integrated and holistic support.
- Promote a strengths-based, relationship-led approach that empowers families to achieve sustainable change.
- Participate in regular supervision, reflective practice, and training to maintain and enhance professional standards.

You are a confident and reflective social worker with a passion for safeguarding children and supporting families. You bring strong assessment, communication, and analytical skills, and can balance empathy with professional authority. You thrive in a team environment and are committed to delivering effective interventions that lead to meaningful improvements in children’s lives.
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
- Substantial post-qualified experience in statutory children’s social care, ideally within Family Safeguarding or similar safeguarding teams.
- Strong understanding of the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and associated legislation and guidance.
- Experience in managing CIN, CP, and court work cases.
- Excellent assessment, planning, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-agency framework.
- Commitment to reflective supervision, continuous learning, and best practice.
- Ability to work flexibly and manage competing priorities under pressure.
