Brief Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Social Worker to join the Children with Disabilities Team at Dudley Council on a 3-month locum contract. This role offers an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people with disabilities by providing support that promotes safety, independence, and wellbeing.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality assessments, care planning, and interventions that are outcome-focused, strengths-based, and tailored to the individual needs of children and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with children and young people with disabilities and their families to assess needs and develop effective, person-centred support plans.
  • Undertake Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Looked After Children (LAC) work as appropriate.
  • Ensure that all assessments and plans are compliant with statutory requirements under the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation.
  • Collaborate with health professionals, education providers, and voluntary sector partners to coordinate holistic care and support packages.
  • Promote inclusion, independence, and participation for children with disabilities within their families and communities.
  • Contribute to the development of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and ensure that multi-agency working supports children’s overall outcomes.
  • Undertake safeguarding enquiries and ensure that children at risk are protected through timely, proportionate, and effective interventions.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records, ensuring all casework meets legal and procedural standards.
  • Participate in supervision, reflective discussions, and training to enhance professional learning and ensure high standards of practice.

About You

You are a skilled and empathetic social worker with a strong understanding of the unique needs of children with disabilities and their families. You bring excellent assessment and communication skills, a collaborative approach to multi-agency working, and a commitment to promoting positive change and outcomes for children in Dudley.

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Substantial post-qualified experience within children’s social care, ideally in a Children with Disabilities or complex needs team.
  • Good knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Care Act 2014, and relevant safeguarding legislation.
  • Experience in managing CIN, CP, and LAC cases within statutory settings.
  • Ability to carry out holistic assessments and develop person-centred support plans.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with children, families, and professionals.
  • Commitment to reflective practice, inclusion, and continuous professional development.
