Qualified Social Worker – Adults (Mental Health)

Brief Job Overview

 
We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Qualified Social Worker to join the Adult Mental Health Service at the London Borough of Redbridge on a 3-month locum contract. This role requires a skilled practitioner with experience supporting adults with complex mental health needs, managing a demanding caseload, and contributing to high-quality assessments and interventions under the Care Act 2014 and Mental Health Act 1983.  

You will work as part of a dynamic team providing access, assessment, and recovery-focused support to individuals across Redbridge’s mental health pathway.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments and reviews under the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation to identify needs, strengths, and risks.
  • Work with adults experiencing complex mental health conditions to promote recovery, independence, and wellbeing.
  • Hold a varied caseload, ensuring timely and effective case management in line with statutory duties and best practice.
  • Work within the Access and Assessment Team and/or Crisis Resolution Team (CRT) to provide initial interventions, risk assessments, and care planning.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of recovery-focused support plans that reflect service users’ goals and strengths.
  • Undertake safeguarding enquiries and ensure adults at risk are protected in accordance with Section 42 of the Care Act 2014.
  • Work collaboratively with health colleagues, community partners, and voluntary sector services to deliver integrated support.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, Mental Health Act assessments (MHAA), and best interests decisions where required.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed case recordings in line with statutory, professional, and organisational standards.

You are a confident and experienced social worker with a strong background in mental health services. You are committed to promoting recovery and empowerment for adults with complex needs, and you bring strong assessment, communication, and case management skills. You work effectively under pressure, thrive in multidisciplinary settings, and demonstrate professional integrity in all aspects of practice.

Requirements

 

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Minimum of three years’ post-qualified experience working within adult mental health services.
  • Experience working in Access and Assessment and/or Crisis Resolution Teams (CRT).
  • Sound knowledge of:
     

         
  • Care Act 2014
       

  • Mental Health Act 1983
       

  • Mental Health Act Assessments (MHAA)
       

  • Safeguarding Adults and Recovery Models
     
  • Strong understanding of the Mental Health Wellbeing Team (MHWT) and access pathways.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage a complex caseload and work effectively both independently and within a team.
  • Commitment to reflective practice and continuous professional development.
