Qualified Social Worker – Child Protection Assessments (Locum) – North Somerset

Brief Job Overview

We are recruiting a dedicated Qualified Social Worker to join the Child Protection Assessment Team in North Somerset on a locum basis. In this role, you will play a vital part in safeguarding children, completing assessments, and ensuring that families receive the right support at the right time. This position is ideal for an experienced social worker seeking a flexible contract within a forward-thinking local authority committed to positive outcomes for children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake child protection investigations and assessments in line with statutory guidance

  • Manage a varied caseload and prepare detailed reports for court proceedings where required

  • Work collaboratively with children, families, and multi-agency partners to develop robust care plans

  • Maintain accurate and timely case recordings in accordance with local authority procedures

  • Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and reflective supervision

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery within the Child Protection Assessment Team

About You

  • You are a qualified and registered Social Worker with Social Work England (SWE)

  • You have strong assessment, communication, and report-writing skills

  • You’re confident in managing complex child protection cases and engaging with multi-disciplinary teams

  • You’re compassionate, organised, and committed to delivering child-centred practice

Requirements

  • Social Work degree (or equivalent qualification)

  • Current registration with Social Work England (SWE)

  • Previous statutory experience within a Child Protection, Assessment, or similar children’s social care team

  • Ability to work independently and meet key deadlines

  • Car driver with access to a vehicle is desirable for community visits

Contract & Salary

  • Location: North Somerset

  • Contract type: Locum / Temporary

  • Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week

  • Pay rate: Competitive, dependent on experience and pay scale
