Family and Friends Social Worker – Children’s Services

Job Overview

We are recruiting a dedicated **Family and Friends Social Worker (Qualified Social Worker)** to join a **Children’s Services team**. This specialist role focuses on supporting children who are cared for by relatives, family members, or friends, ensuring that placements are safe, stable, and in the child’s best interests.

You will manage a caseload of connected persons’ assessments, provide ongoing support to carers, and work closely with children and families to promote positive outcomes within family and friends care arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

Undertake viability and connected persons’ assessments of family and friends carers.

Support family and friends foster carers to provide safe and nurturing placements for children.

Prepare detailed, evidence-based reports for fostering panels, reviews, and court proceedings.

Work directly with children, families, and carers to promote stability and positive outcomes.

Provide ongoing advice, guidance, and support to connected carers throughout the fostering process.

Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners, including education, health, and voluntary organisations.

Ensure compliance with fostering regulations, statutory guidance, and children’s safeguarding legislation.

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in line with local authority policies.

Participate in supervision, peer learning, and continuous professional development.

About You

You are a compassionate and resilient social worker with experience in fostering, kinship care, or children’s social work. You are confident in carrying out assessments, supporting carers, and ensuring the best possible outcomes for children.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.

Experience working within Children’s Services, ideally in fostering, kinship, or family and friends placements.

Strong knowledge of fostering regulations, child protection legislation, and statutory frameworks.

Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.

Ability to manage a varied caseload effectively.
