Visual Impairment Officer

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting a Visual Impairment Officer for a locum opportunity within South West London Social Services. Based with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, this role will support adults with visual impairments to maximise independence, improve daily living skills, and maintain active participation within their communities.

The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment, rehabilitation, advice, and practical support to individuals experiencing sight loss, helping them develop confidence, safety, and independence in their day-to-day lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake specialist assessments for adults with visual impairments and sensory needs.
  • Provide rehabilitation support to promote independence and improve functional abilities.
  • Assess daily living skills and identify appropriate interventions to enhance safety and wellbeing.
  • Recommend and demonstrate the use of specialist equipment, low vision aids, and assistive technology.
  • Provide advice and support to service users, families, carers, and partner agencies.
  • Support individuals to access community resources and relevant support services.
  • Promote independent living skills, mobility, and confidence within the home and community.
  • Work collaboratively with social care teams, healthcare professionals, and voluntary organisations.
  • Maintain accurate records and case documentation in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
  • Contribute to person-centred, strengths-based assessments and support planning.

About You

You will have experience working with people who have visual impairments or sensory support needs, alongside a strong commitment to promoting independence, inclusion, and positive outcomes.

You will possess excellent communication, assessment, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with service users, carers, and multidisciplinary professionals.

Requirements

  • Experience working within visual impairment, sensory services, rehabilitation, or adult social care settings.
  • Knowledge of specialist equipment, assistive technology, and support strategies for people with sight loss.
  • Strong assessment, communication, and case management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
  • Understanding of person-centred and strengths-based approaches.
  • Experience working collaboratively with health, social care, and community organisations.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities and relevant legislation desirable.
