Location: County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust – Chester-Le-Street / Shotley Bridge

Area: North East NHS

Rate: £Negotiable

Contract: Locum, ongoing (until end of January 2026)

 

About the Role

 

A Band 6 Physiotherapist is required to start as soon as possible to support the Community Therapy and ward-based services across Chester-Le-Street and Shotley Bridge. This role focuses on rehabilitation, mobility assessment and discharge planning, working with a varied caseload of patients with a wide range of conditions.

 

Main Responsibilities

 

  • Provide high-quality physiotherapy assessments, treatment plans and interventions within community therapy and ward environments.
  • Complete rehabilitation and reablement programmes to support recovery and independence.
  • Undertake mobility assessments and develop personalised exercise programmes.
  • Lead on safe and effective discharge planning as part of the wider MDT.
  • Provide and advise on equipment, ensuring safe manual handling at all times.
  • Supervise junior physiotherapy staff and support their development.
  • Travel between sites and carry essential equipment—car driver is essential.

 

Skills & Experience

 

  • HCPC-registered Physiotherapist.
  • Experience working on hospital wards and within rehabilitation/reablement services.
  • Strong manual handling knowledge and experience in equipment provision.
  • Competent in managing patients with common conditions including arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, dementia, MSK conditions, COPD, orthopaedic conditions and falls.
  • Experience of supervising junior staff.
  • Car driver with access to a vehicle (essential).
