Brief Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 6 Physiotherapist to join Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in South East London.
This part-time locum position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the hospital’s front door service, providing high-quality physiotherapy assessment, treatment, and discharge planning for acutely unwell patients.

You will manage a varied and busy caseload, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to promote safe, effective, and timely patient discharge. This is a rewarding role for a dedicated clinician looking to make a real difference within an established and supportive NHS team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive physiotherapy assessments for acutely unwell patients presenting through the hospital’s front door.
  • Formulate and implement individualised treatment and rehabilitation plans in line with patient needs and service priorities.
  • Contribute to effective discharge planning to promote safe and timely transitions from hospital to home or other care settings.
  • Manage a busy and varied clinical caseload, using excellent prioritisation and organisational skills.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic patient care and effective communication between services.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior physiotherapists, students, and therapy support staff.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient documentation in line with NHS and HCPC professional standards.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical standards and patient outcomes within the service.

About You

You are a confident and proactive Physiotherapist with a strong background in acute hospital or front door environments. You have excellent clinical reasoning skills, are adept at managing competing priorities, and have a passion for delivering patient-centred care.

With your sound knowledge of rehabilitation and discharge processes, you bring energy and professionalism to a fast-paced setting and support colleagues through leadership and mentorship.

Requirements

  • BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy or equivalent qualification.
  • HCPC Registration as a qualified Physiotherapist.
  • Substantial acute hospital experience, ideally within a front door, emergency, or medical ward setting.
  • Strong skills in assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning for acutely unwell patients.
  • Experience managing a busy clinical caseload and prioritising effectively under pressure.
  • Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and support junior staff and students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Sound understanding of NHS policies, standards, and HCPC professional guidelines.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development.

Contract & Working Pattern

  • Hours: 29 hours per week
