Occupational Therapist – Band 6
Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within South West London NHS. Based with Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, this role is within the Acute Stroke Service, supporting patients with stroke and complex medical conditions throughout their rehabilitation journey.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with experience in acute stroke or neurological rehabilitation to work within a busy acute setting. You will assess and treat patients on the Acute Stroke Unit, supporting complex rehabilitation and safe discharge planning while working closely with the multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment for patients within the Acute Stroke Unit.
- Manage a mixed caseload of stroke and acute medical patients requiring rehabilitation.
- Undertake comprehensive functional, cognitive, and environmental assessments.
- Develop and implement evidence-based, person-centred rehabilitation programmes.
- Coordinate complex discharge planning to support safe and timely transitions from hospital.
- Manage the rehabilitation of patients transferred from Hyper Acute Stroke Units (HASU) and Major Trauma Units.
- Work autonomously within a fast-paced acute environment, prioritising a complex caseload effectively.
- Work flexibly across stroke, medical, and rehabilitation areas in line with service requirements.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high-quality patient-centred care.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.
About You
You will be an experienced HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with a strong background in acute hospital services, stroke rehabilitation, or neurology. You will be confident managing complex patients, delivering evidence-based rehabilitation, and coordinating safe discharge planning within a multidisciplinary team.
You will possess excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills, together with the flexibility to work across a variety of acute clinical areas.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Relevant UK NHS Occupational Therapy experience.
- Experience working within an acute hospital environment.
- Experience in stroke rehabilitation or neurology is highly desirable.
- Strong discharge planning and rehabilitation experience.
- Ability to manage complex caseloads and work autonomously under pressure.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
