Band 7 Locum Senior Clinical Pharmacist – Rotational
About the Role
- We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Senior Clinical Pharmacist to join a Hospital Pharmacy Department as part of our rotational programme.
- This post provides an excellent opportunity to develop advanced clinical, leadership, and specialist skills across a range of pharmacy disciplines.
- The successful candidate will deliver and develop safe, effective, and efficient pharmaceutical services within defined specialties, deputising for the Lead Directorate Pharmacist where required.
- You will support the provision of high-quality, evidence-based pharmaceutical care to patients while contributing to service innovation and medicines optimisation.
Rotations May Include
- Acute and General Medicine (including AMU, Cardiology, HIV, Gastroenterology)
- Surgery and EPMA
- Infectious Diseases / OPAT
- Medicines Information
- High Cost Drugs
- Technical Services (including Chemotherapy and TPN)
- Community Services (Integrated Community Network Medicines Optimisation Service)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to assigned specialties, ensuring safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines.
- Support and deputise for the Lead Directorate Pharmacist in delivering directorate responsibilities.
- Supervise, mentor, and support trainee pharmacists and technicians on rotation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, providing expert pharmaceutical advice to medical and nursing staff.
- Undertake medicines reconciliation, review treatment plans, and ensure continuity of care across settings.
- Promote adherence to the Trust formulary, NICE guidance, and local prescribing policies.
- Contribute to clinical audits, drug utilisation reviews, and cost-improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the delivery of Medicines Information, Technical Services, and High Cost Drugs management as part of the rotation.
- Support medicines governance, quality improvement, and clinical risk reduction initiatives.
- Engage in continuous professional development and service evaluation.
Essential Criteria
- Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent experience).
- Strong clinical knowledge and experience within a hospital setting.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
