Job Overview
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join its Head and Neck team in York. This locum position offers an exciting opportunity to provide specialist assessment and intervention for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties related to head and neck conditions.
Key Responsibilities
– Deliver specialist speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with head and neck disorders.
– Provide expert input for patients with voice, swallowing, and communication needs, including those undergoing cancer treatment.
– Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including ENT, oncology, dietetics, and nursing staff to deliver coordinated and effective care.
– Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to documentation, audit, and service evaluation in line with NHS and HCPC standards.
– Participate in patient and carer education, providing advice and training on communication and swallowing management.
– Support junior staff and students as appropriate, promoting evidence-based practice within the service.
About You
You’ll be an empathetic and confident Speech and Language Therapist with a strong clinical background in adult communication and swallowing disorders. Experience within head and neck services or oncology settings is highly desirable.
Requirements
– Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent)
– Current registration with the HCPC and membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
– Experience working with adults with complex swallowing and communication needs
– Previous NHS experience (essential)
– Experience in head and neck caseload management (desirable)
– Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills
Contract & Salary
– Contract type: Locum

– Working hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

– Salary: Negotiable depending on experience
