Brief Job Overview

We are recruiting a dedicated and experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist to join Achieving for Children, working across Kingston and Richmond in South London.

This ongoing locum position offers the opportunity to provide high-quality, child-centred occupational therapy within a special school setting. You will work as an autonomous practitioner, delivering specialist assessments and interventions to support children and young people with disabilities, helping them reach their full potential in learning and daily life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist paediatric occupational therapy to children and young people with a range of complex physical, learning, and social needs.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure a holistic approach to therapy and education.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments and provide evidence-based interventions in line with clinical best practice.
  • Write detailed and accurate reports for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and multidisciplinary team assessments and reviews.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to other professionals, parents, and carers regarding children’s occupational therapy needs.
  • Support children and young people to develop functional and life skills that promote independence and participation in daily routines.
  • Contribute to the supervision and mentoring of students on placement and support workers within the service.
  • Work across a variety of settings including special schools, clinics, and community environments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
  • Promote collaborative and inclusive working practices across education, health, and social care services.

About You

You are a skilled and compassionate Paediatric Occupational Therapist with a passion for supporting children and young people to achieve their full potential. You bring a strong understanding of sensory, physical, and developmental needs, alongside a commitment to delivering family-centred and evidence-based interventions. You enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team and have excellent communication and organisational skills.

Requirements

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Proven experience working as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist within education, health, or social care settings.
  • Experience supporting children and young people with complex physical, learning, or social needs.
  • Strong knowledge of EHCP processes and multidisciplinary team working.
  • Excellent assessment, intervention, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage a specialist caseload effectively.
  • Experience mentoring students or junior staff (desirable).
  • Strong communication and partnership skills, with a family-focused approach.
  • Commitment to professional development and adherence to HCPC standards of practice.
