Yorkshire Collaboration is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to provide specialist assessment and reporting services to support housing adaptation works across the borough. This temporary requirement will focus on delivering timely Occupational Therapy assessments and professional recommendations to support appropriate adaptations within residents’ homes.

The successful Occupational Therapist will play a key role in enabling residents with physical, sensory or long-term health needs to live safely and independently. The role involves assessing functional needs, identifying practical housing solutions and making professional recommendations relating to equipment, minor and major adaptations, accessible housing and rehousing.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake specialist, person-centred Occupational Therapy assessments for adults requiring housing adaptations.
• Complete detailed assessment reports and professional recommendations to support adaptation works.
• Assess functional needs and identify appropriate equipment and adaptations to promote independence and safety within the home.
• Consider and balance assessed need, customer choice, risk, property feasibility, available resources and relevant professional and legal requirements.
• Provide recommendations relating to minor and major adaptations, accessible housing and rehousing where appropriate.
• Liaise effectively with residents, families, contractors, housing teams and partner agencies.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and assessment documentation.
• Ensure assessments and recommendations comply with relevant legislation, policies and professional standards.
• Contribute to the timely delivery of adaptation projects and associated statutory responsibilities.
• Manage a complex and varied caseload autonomously, prioritising workload effectively.
• Provide specialist Occupational Therapy advice to colleagues and partner agencies.
• Contribute to the supervision and development of staff and students where required.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist with a strong background in housing adaptations, adult social care or community Occupational Therapy. You will be confident undertaking detailed functional assessments and translating your findings into clear, practical and professional recommendations.

You will have a good understanding of how appropriate housing adaptations can enable people to remain safe and independent in their own homes. Strong report-writing, communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage a complex caseload and work autonomously.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Experience undertaking Occupational Therapy assessments within housing, adaptations, adult social care or community settings.
• Ability to produce clear, professional assessment reports and recommendations.
• Knowledge of housing adaptations, Disabled Facilities Grants and enabling independence within the home environment.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise workload effectively.

Desirable:

• Previous experience working within a local authority, housing provider or NHS community service.
• Knowledge of adaptation processes and relevant housing legislation.
• Experience working collaboratively with technical, housing and construction teams.
