The Children’s Trust in Tadworth is seeking an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist – Band 6/7 to provide specialist Occupational Therapy for children and young people within a neurorehabilitation setting. This role offers an opportunity to deliver high-quality, evidence-based therapy as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting children and young people with a range of needs, including highly complex presentations.

The successful Occupational Therapist will have experience in upper limb management and rehabilitation, cognition and functional assessment, and hoisting. You will also be confident writing professional reports and working collaboratively within an MDT, education services, families and carers.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, evidence-based Occupational Therapy for children and young people.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and education services to support each child’s therapy and rehabilitation.
• Undertake specialist Occupational Therapy assessments for children and young people with a range of needs, including highly complex needs.
• Develop meaningful therapy goals in partnership with the child, family or carers and the wider MDT.
• Devise and deliver developmentally appropriate, goal-directed and occupation-centred therapeutic interventions.
• Use observational and standardised outcome measures to monitor and evaluate progress.
• Review and adapt therapy interventions and programmes according to the child’s progress and changing needs.
• Contribute to the assessment and management of children’s upper limb needs, supporting interventions designed to maintain or improve range of movement and function where possible.
• Assess and provide advice regarding specialist equipment.
• Liaise with Social Services and other relevant professionals regarding the provision of specialist equipment.
• Consider equipment requirements for use at The Children’s Trust and recommendations for longer-term equipment following discharge home.
• Contribute to assessment, evaluation and recommendation of appropriate discharge and transition plans within the MDT framework.
• Produce clear and professional reports as required.

About You

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Paediatric Occupational Therapist with experience working with children and young people within neurorehabilitation or a similar specialist setting. You will be confident undertaking complex assessments and developing individualised, occupation-centred interventions.

You will have practical experience of upper limb rehabilitation and management, cognition and functional assessment, and hoisting. Strong communication and report-writing skills are essential, alongside the ability to work effectively with children, families, carers, education professionals and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

• Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Experience working as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist.
• Relevant experience within neurorehabilitation or a comparable specialist setting.
• Experience with upper limb management and rehabilitation.
• Experience assessing cognition and functional ability.
• Experience with hoisting and specialist equipment.
• Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong professional report-writing skills.
• Ability to undertake specialist assessments and develop evidence-based, goal-directed interventions.
• Ability to work collaboratively with children, young people, families, carers and other professionals.
