The role involves recommending appropriate equipment and minor adaptations, providing advice on techniques to overcome difficulties with everyday activities, and working closely with health, social care, housing and voluntary sector colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess physically disabled service users and provide professional advice regarding their daily living needs.
  • Undertake assessments in accordance with relevant social care, disability and housing legislation and Occupational Therapy policies and procedures.
  • Identify practical ways of overcoming difficulties with activities of daily living, including dressing, bathing and cooking.
  • Work with service users, families and carers to develop practical solutions that promote independence and improve quality of life.
  • Recommend and order appropriate, effective and cost-efficient Occupational Therapy equipment and minor adaptations.
  • Demonstrate and instruct service users, families and carers in the safe and correct use and maintenance of equipment and adaptations.
  • Apply professional expertise when assessing complex moving and handling needs.
  • Contribute to assessments and recommendations relating to major adaptations.
  • Participate in the Occupational Therapy Duty System and associated duty rota.
  • Liaise with relevant council departments and other agencies to ensure Occupational Therapy recommendations are implemented effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with health, social care and voluntary sector colleagues to support continuity of care.

About You

We are looking for Occupational Therapists who are confident working autonomously with a caseload of physically disabled residents. You will have strong assessment and professional decision-making skills, with the ability to identify practical interventions and make appropriate recommendations for equipment and adaptations.

You must be experienced and competent in complex moving and handling and major adaptations. You will also be comfortable working as part of a duty rota and collaborating with a wide range of professionals, families and carers to achieve positive outcomes for service users.

Requirements

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist with relevant professional registration.
  • Experience working with physically disabled adults within a social care or community setting.
  • Experience managing an Occupational Therapy caseload and completing casework within appropriate timescales.
  • Experience and competence in complex moving and handling.
  • Experience of major adaptations.
  • Experience assessing daily living needs and recommending appropriate interventions.
  • Experience of equipment provision and minor adaptations.
