Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are currently recruiting for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Housing Adaptation Team at the London Borough of Hounslow. This opportunity is suitable for an Occupational Therapist with community-based experience, ideally within social care, who is confident undertaking complex assessments and making recommendations for housing adaptations, equipment and rehousing.

Working with clients of all ages who have substantial disabilities, you will provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and recommendations to promote independence, safety and accessibility within the home. The role involves working closely with Technical Surveyors, Housing, Adult and Children’s Services, Health and other statutory and voluntary agencies.

This is a predominantly lone-working role with regular site visits and a hybrid working arrangement, requiring two days per week in the office and the remaining three days for visits and report writing.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake complex, holistic Occupational Therapy assessments for clients of all ages with substantial disabilities within their own homes and community settings.
• Assess and make recommendations for minor and major home adaptations, including adaptations funded through Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) and Social Housing.
• Provide specialist recommendations regarding Occupational Therapy equipment and telecare solutions where appropriate.
• Carry out rehousing assessments and produce detailed housing needs reports.
• Work closely with the Lettings Team (HIPS) to support the matching of individuals to suitable properties within the available housing stock.
• Work collaboratively with Technical Surveyors, producing detailed recommendations and following cases through to completion.
• Undertake regular site visits, including joint visits with Caseworkers, Surveyors and other professionals where required.
• Project manage an allocated caseload, ensuring assessments, recommendations and associated actions are completed within appropriate timescales.
• Provide specialist advice and guidance to departments across the council as required.
• Attend meetings and represent the council in relation to Occupational Therapy, housing adaptations and specialist support.
• Work collaboratively with Adult and Children’s Services, Health, Housing and statutory and voluntary agencies.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records in accordance with relevant professional guidelines and standards of practice.
• Manage workload and time effectively across home visits, assessments and detailed report writing.

About You

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with a minimum of 12 months’ post-registration community experience, ideally within Housing or Adult Social Care. You will have experience assessing adults and children in the community and making appropriate recommendations for minor and major adaptations.

You will be confident working autonomously, managing a varied caseload and completing detailed assessments and reports. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential, as you will work with clients, families, technical professionals, housing colleagues and a wide range of partner agencies.

Requirements

• BSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification.
• Current registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Minimum of 12 months’ post-registration community-related Occupational Therapy experience, ideally within social care or housing.
• Experience assessing adults and children in community settings.
• Experience making recommendations for major and minor home adaptations.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) process.
• Experience of Occupational Therapy equipment provision.
• Good understanding of relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
• Ability to maintain accurate and comprehensive records and work in accordance with professional guidelines and standards.
• Enhanced DBS will be required.
• Experience reading new-build plans for wheelchair-accessible dwellings and knowledge of using Document M (DOC M) to provide advice and recommendations to developments is desirable.
• Experience assessing clients requiring rehousing and producing housing needs reports is desirable.
