An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) at Stanford Hall, Loughborough, on a 10-week locum contract.

The successful candidate will provide a specialist, peripatetic Occupational Therapy service within Occupational Health, working autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will support Service Personnel with a range of health conditions, assessing their functional capacity and providing specialist advice to facilitate safe and sustainable return-to-work outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work autonomously without direct supervision and remain accountable for your professional actions.

  • Support the delivery of a peripatetic Occupational Therapy service within Occupational Health.

  • Provide specialist clinical advice and training on the value and contribution of Occupational Therapy within Occupational Health to multidisciplinary colleagues and external organisations.

  • Support the Occupational Medicine Consultant in providing timely and appropriate Occupational Health advice to key stakeholders.

  • Maintain direct responsibility for an allocated caseload, ensuring each Service Person has an accurate and regularly reviewed plan of care.

  • Assess Service Personnel with a range of diagnoses, considering complex biopsychosocial factors that may affect their ability to return to work.

  • Assess the impact of diagnosis and prognosis on functional capacity and occupational performance.

  • Undertake a range of standardised and non-standardised Occupational Therapy assessments, including:

    • Workplace adaptations

    • Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE)

    • Job demand analysis

    • Functional assessments

  • Make complex clinical decisions and produce detailed specialist reports to support Occupational Health recommendations.

  • Assess individuals and identify wider population trends using a range of assessment and intervention approaches.

  • Work collaboratively with Occupational Medicine, multidisciplinary colleagues and relevant stakeholders to support effective clinical outcomes.

  • Ensure all assessments, recommendations and interventions are appropriately documented.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy.

  • Current HCPC registration.

  • Significant post-registration Occupational Therapy experience, ideally within Occupational Health, vocational rehabilitation or rehabilitation.

  • Experience assessing functional capacity and occupational performance.

  • Knowledge of Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) and/or job demand analysis.

  • Experience considering complex biopsychosocial factors when assessing an individual’s ability to return to work.

  • Strong clinical reasoning and autonomous decision-making skills.

  • Excellent report-writing and communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Understanding of workplace adaptations and vocational rehabilitation principles.
