Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with NHS Western Isles, based at Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway. Working within the Outer Hebrides NHS, the successful candidate will join the Stroke and Neurology service, providing predominantly outpatient Occupational Therapy with some inpatient and domiciliary work.
The role is ideally suited to an Occupational Therapist with previous experience working clinically at Band 6 level or above within the NHS. The post will involve working across the Western Isles, with occasional travel to the Southern Isles for clinics. A driving licence is essential, with access to a pool vehicle for domiciliary visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide predominantly outpatient Occupational Therapy within the Stroke and Neurology service.
- Provide Occupational Therapy input to inpatient patients where required.
- Undertake domiciliary visits to assess and support patients within their own homes.
- Assess and provide appropriate Occupational Therapy interventions based on individual patient needs.
- Support patients presenting with stroke and neurological conditions.
- Provide appropriate management for a range of clinical presentations within the Occupational Therapy caseload.
- Undertake assessment and treatment of hand conditions, including splinting where appropriate.
- Provide Occupational Therapy input to patients with rheumatology conditions.
- Work effectively across outpatient, inpatient, and community settings.
- Travel across the Western Isles as required to support service delivery.
- Attend clinics in the Southern Isles when required.
- Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient-centred care.
- Maintain appropriate clinical documentation and professional standards.
About You
You will be an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist with proven NHS clinical experience at Band 6 level or above. Experience within stroke and neurology is particularly relevant, alongside the ability to work flexibly across outpatient, inpatient, and domiciliary settings.
Experience in treating a variety of rheumatology and hand conditions, including splinting, is desirable. You will need to be confident working independently and travelling across the Western Isles when required.
Requirements
- Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Essential: Clinical NHS experience at Band 6 level or above.
- Experience working within Occupational Therapy services.
- Experience in stroke and neurological conditions is desirable.
- Experience with rheumatology conditions is desirable.
- Experience managing hand conditions and splinting is desirable.
- Ability to work across outpatient, inpatient, and domiciliary settings.
- Full driving licence is essential.
- Ability to undertake travel across the Western Isles and, when required, to the Southern Isles.
- Strong clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
