Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Community Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Gateshead Council. Working within North East Social Services, this role is focused exclusively on 0–25 adaptations work, supporting children, young people, adults, and families to maintain independence within the community.
The successful candidate will undertake specialist assessments for individuals whose functional ability has changed due to ill health, as well as disabled children and young people with severe disabilities and life-limiting conditions. The role involves developing realistic and achievable goals and providing Occupational Therapy interventions including advice, equipment, and adaptations.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake assessments for individuals experiencing a change in functional ability following a period of ill health.
- Develop realistic and achievable goal plans based on assessed needs and individual circumstances.
- Undertake specialist assessments of disabled people, including children and young people with severe disabilities and life-limiting conditions.
- Assess the needs of disabled adults, older people, and their carers.
- Work within the requirements of the Care Act 2014 and relevant childcare legislation.
- Provide Occupational Therapy interventions designed to improve and maintain independence within the community.
- Provide specialist advice regarding appropriate equipment and adaptations.
- Assess, recommend, and support the delivery of appropriate adaptations.
- Work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers, and relevant professionals.
- Use professional judgement and clinical reasoning to identify appropriate solutions based on assessed needs.
- Maintain accurate and timely records relating to assessments, goals, interventions, equipment, and adaptations.
About You
You will be an experienced Community Occupational Therapist with relevant experience in adaptations work, particularly supporting children and young people aged 0–25. You will be confident undertaking specialist assessments and identifying practical equipment and adaptation solutions to promote independence.
You will have strong assessment and goal-setting skills and be able to work with individuals and families experiencing complex needs, including severe disabilities and life-limiting conditions.
Requirements
- Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Community Occupational Therapy experience.
- Experience undertaking specialist assessments for disabled people.
- Experience with 0–25 adaptations work.
- Experience assessing children and young people with severe disabilities and/or life-limiting conditions.
- Experience assessing for equipment and adaptations.
- Knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and relevant childcare legislation.
- Strong clinical reasoning, assessment, and goal-setting skills.
- Ability to develop realistic and achievable outcome-focused plans.
- Strong communication and partnership-working skills.
