Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Newham Council. Working within East London Social Services, you will join the Double to Single Handed Care Project, supporting Adult Social Care to review and right-size care packages through Double Handed Care (DHC) to Single Handed Care (SHC) reviews.

This role is particularly suited to an experienced Social Care Occupational Therapist with strong assessment, moving and handling, adaptations, postural and seating assessment skills. You will work closely with individuals, families, care providers, and care coordinators within people’s homes to identify safe and effective solutions that maximise independence and ensure care packages remain appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive Adult Social Care Occupational Therapy assessments.
  • Undertake Double Handed Care to Single Handed Care reviews to right-size packages of care where appropriate.
  • Carry out detailed assisting and moving assessments and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Work closely with home care providers, care coordinators, individuals, and families during assessments.
  • Undertake community-based assessments within residents’ homes, with availability for up to three days per week in the community.
  • Assess and recommend appropriate adaptations to support safe and effective care.
  • Create basic drawings for standard adaptations, including LAS adaptations.
  • Complete postural and seating assessments and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Apply strong clinical reasoning and risk management skills when reviewing care arrangements.
  • Manage an individual caseload effectively and work consistently to agreed deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records using the Azeus Care system.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, care providers, families, and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Attend relevant in-service training and make use of OT Practice Manager supervision where appropriate.

About You

You will be a qualified and HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with strong Adult Social Care experience. You must be confident completing complex assessments and have demonstrable experience successfully undertaking DHC to SHC reviews.

Strong moving and handling experience is essential, alongside the ability to work closely with care providers and families to identify safe, practical solutions. You will also ideally have experience with adaptations, postural and seating assessments, and producing basic drawings for standard adaptations.

Requirements

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Strong Adult Social Care Occupational Therapy assessment experience.
  • Essential: Experience successfully completing Double Handed Care to Single Handed Care reviews.
  • Essential: Strong assisting and moving / manual handling assessment experience.
  • Experience working closely with home care providers and care coordinators.
  • Experience undertaking assessments within people’s homes.
  • Experience with adaptations.
  • Ability to produce basic drawings for standard adaptations, such as LAS.
  • Experience undertaking postural and seating assessments.
  • Strong organisational and caseload management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines within a busy Adult Social Care environment.
  • Knowledge or experience using Azeus Care is advantageous.
