Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Leeds City Council. Working within West Yorkshire Social Services, you will join the Children’s Disability Team, managing a complex caseload of children with a wide range of disabilities, including physical and behavioural needs.

The role involves undertaking assessments within children’s own homes and making recommendations for appropriate equipment and adaptations. You will also complete complex moving and handling assessments and work closely with children, families, and wider professionals to identify practical solutions that promote independence, safety, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex Occupational Therapy caseload within the Children’s Disability Team.
  • Assess children with a wide range of disabilities, including physical and behavioural needs.
  • Undertake assessments within children’s own homes and other appropriate settings.
  • Assess functional needs and recommend appropriate specialist equipment and adaptations.
  • Complete complex moving and handling assessments and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with children, families, carers, and relevant professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Apply effective problem-solving and clinical reasoning to identify appropriate solutions.
  • Build positive and effective relationships with children and families.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records and documentation.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and the promotion of children’s welfare.
  • Share knowledge and skills with colleagues and contribute to the development of others.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the wider Children’s Disability Team.

About You

You will be an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist with experience working with children and families. You will have essential experience in specialist equipment, major adaptations, and moving and handling.

You will be a confident communicator and problem solver with a positive, can-do approach. You will be able to make sound professional judgements, manage a complex caseload, and demonstrate a strong understanding of the needs of children and families.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Experience within a Children’s Disability or similar service is desirable.
  • Essential: Experience providing specialist equipment.
  • Essential: Experience with major adaptations.
  • Essential: Experience undertaking moving and handling assessments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and caseload management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
  • Clean DBS required.
