Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Slough Borough Council. Working within Berkshire Social Services and the Long Term Team, you will provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to service users and carers within their home environments.

You will manage an independent clinical caseload, delivering holistic, person-centred assessments and interventions that promote independence, maximise available resources, and reduce reliance on formal care services. The role involves close multidisciplinary working across health and social care, including Local Access Points and Discharge to Assess teams, to support coordinated care and safe discharge or transfer of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct holistic Occupational Therapy assessments within service users’ home environments to identify their needs, strengths, risks, and available support.
• Develop person-centred recommendations that reflect assessed needs and available resources.
• Involve carers throughout the assessment and intervention process, recognising and addressing their needs alongside those of the service user.
• Independently manage a specialist clinical caseload, prioritising workload and delivering high-quality assessments and interventions.
• Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date clinical records.
• Set SMART goals to guide therapeutic interventions and support timely progression through the service.
• Promote the use of Assistive Technology and digital tools such as AskSARA to enhance independence and reduce reliance on formal care services.
• Apply a strengths-based approach to assessment, intervention, and care planning.
• Ensure clinical activities and interventions reflect current manual handling legislation, training, and best practice.
• Work collaboratively with health and social care colleagues, including Local Access Points and Discharge to Assess teams.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary assessment, treatment planning, care pathway management, and safe discharge or transfer of care.
• Support the development and delivery of specialist assessment, treatment, and intervention programmes within community settings, including in-reach support where appropriate.
• Take responsibility for the safe prescription, provision, and monitoring of equipment in accordance with service policies and procedures.
• Provide supervision and professional guidance to Occupational Therapy Assistants in line with your level of expertise.
• Participate in clinical supervision, appraisals, team-based CPD activities, peer reviews, and professional development.
• Maintain a comprehensive CPD portfolio demonstrating ongoing professional development and professional accountability.
• Undertake additional duties aligned with core Occupational Therapy skills and responsibilities as required by the service.

About You

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with strong community and Adult Social Care skills, confident managing a specialist caseload independently. You will have a holistic and person-centred approach, with the ability to identify practical solutions that promote independence and achieve meaningful outcomes for service users and carers.

You will be confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team and have strong knowledge of equipment provision, manual handling, assistive technology, and community-based Occupational Therapy interventions.

Requirements

• Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
• Current professional registration appropriate to Occupational Therapy practice.
• Experience managing a specialist Occupational Therapy caseload independently.
• Experience undertaking holistic assessments within people’s home environments.
• Strong understanding of person-centred and strengths-based Occupational Therapy practice.
• Knowledge and application of manual handling legislation, training, and best practice.
• Experience prescribing, providing, and monitoring Occupational Therapy equipment.
• Understanding of Assistive Technology and digital solutions that can promote independence.
• Experience working collaboratively across health and social care services.
• Ability to contribute effectively to MDT working, discharge planning, and care pathway management.
• Experience providing supervision or guidance to Occupational Therapy Assistants is desirable.
• Commitment to CPD, clinical supervision, peer review, and maintaining professional competence.
