Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Specialist Housing Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Liverpool City Council. Working within Merseyside Social Services, you will play a key role in supporting adults with disabilities to remain safe, independent, and well within their own homes through strengths-based Occupational Therapy assessments, equipment provision, and housing adaptations.
Working within the framework of the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation, you will assess complex functional needs, recommend major and minor adaptations, and work collaboratively with service users, carers, housing teams, and partner agencies to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, reduce reliance on care packages, and promote independent living.
This is a community-based role requiring regular attendance across Liverpool for home visits and office-based working.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete comprehensive strengths-based Occupational Therapy assessments for adults with disabilities in line with Care Act 2014 eligibility criteria.
- Assess functional abilities and identify practical solutions that maximise independence and improve quality of life.
- Recommend, prescribe, and arrange the provision of specialist equipment, assistive technology, and structural adaptations to meet assessed needs.
- Demonstrate the safe and effective use of equipment and adaptations to service users, carers, and families.
- Carry out moving and handling assessments using current best practice techniques and develop safe systems of work.
- Work collaboratively with housing providers, health professionals, statutory agencies, voluntary organisations, and community partners to deliver coordinated support.
- Manage a diverse caseload while ensuring timely completion of assessments and interventions in accordance with Adult Social Care priorities.
- Maintain accurate electronic social care records and ensure compliance with service standards, legislation, and professional guidance.
- Apply the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation consistently throughout all aspects of practice.
- Support the professional development and clinical supervision of Occupational Therapy Assistants and students on placement.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Occupational Therapy assessment practices and service improvement initiatives.
- Promote collaborative working, person-centred practice, and outcome-focused interventions across the service.
- Utilise technology and digital systems provided by Liverpool City Council to support effective service delivery.
About You
You will be a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with substantial experience working within Adult Social Care, housing adaptations, or community Occupational Therapy services. You will have strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, moving and handling, equipment provision, and structural adaptations, together with a commitment to delivering strengths-based, person-centred care.
You will be confident managing a complex caseload, working autonomously within the community, and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary professionals to deliver positive outcomes for service users and carers.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Experience working within Adult Social Care or community Occupational Therapy services.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and relevant Adult Social Care legislation.
- Experience assessing for specialist equipment, moving and handling, and major and minor housing adaptations.
- Strong understanding of strengths-based and outcome-focused Occupational Therapy practice.
- Experience supervising or supporting Occupational Therapy Assistants and students.
- Excellent assessment, communication, report writing, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage an autonomous community caseload and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
