Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with the London Borough of Hackney. Working within East London Social Services, you will join the Double Handed Care Project, a 12-month initiative focused on reviewing existing care arrangements and developing innovative, strengths-based solutions that maximise independence while reducing reliance on ongoing care where appropriate.

Working closely with the Adult Social Care Review Team and wider multidisciplinary partners, you will undertake complex community assessments, review care packages, recommend equipment and adaptations, and identify opportunities to safely implement single-handed care and other independence-promoting interventions. This role offers the potential for extension and is ideal for an Occupational Therapist with strong moving and handling experience and a passion for service improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist Occupational Therapy services as part of the Double Handed Care Project.
  • Undertake comprehensive community-based assessments for adults with permanent, complex, or substantial disabilities.
  • Review existing double-handed care packages and identify safe, innovative solutions that maximise independence.
  • Complete assessments in accordance with the Care Act 2014 and the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act.
  • Assess functional ability, moving and handling needs, equipment requirements, and environmental barriers.
  • Develop person-centred, outcome-focused care plans that promote independence and reduce unnecessary reliance on ongoing care.
  • Recommend and prescribe equipment, Telecare, assistive technology, and home adaptations where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to review the effectiveness of current care provision and identify improved care pathways.
  • Train, advise, and support care staff in implementing safe moving and handling techniques and revised care strategies.
  • Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants and Occupational Therapy students where required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely electronic case records and complete community visits across the borough.
  • Contribute to the wider Occupational Therapy and Sensory Service, supporting Adult Social Care priorities and service development.

About You

You will be a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with significant experience working within Adult Social Care or community Occupational Therapy services. You will have strong expertise in moving and handling, equipment provision, care package reviews, and delivering strengths-based interventions that promote independence.

You will be confident managing complex community caseloads, working autonomously, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, person-centred solutions that improve outcomes for service users.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within Adult Social Care or community Occupational Therapy services.
  • Extensive experience managing complex moving and handling cases.
  • Knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act.
  • Experience reviewing care packages, equipment provision, and home adaptations.
  • Knowledge of Telecare and assistive technology assessments.
  • Experience supervising Occupational Therapy Assistants or students is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, report writing, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
  • Ability to manage an autonomous community caseload and deliver innovative care solutions.
