Occupational Therapist – Band 6

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within North West London NHS. Based at Northwick Park Hospital, part of London North West University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, this role is within the acute Neuro and Stroke service, supporting patients with complex neurological conditions through specialist assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with neuro and stroke rehabilitation experience who enjoys working within a fast-paced acute multidisciplinary team. You will manage a varied caseload of patients with neurological conditions, delivering evidence-based interventions that maximise independence, promote recovery, and facilitate safe and timely discharge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake specialist Occupational Therapy assessments for patients within acute neurology and stroke services.
  • Assess physical, cognitive, perceptual, sensory, and functional abilities to develop person-centred rehabilitation plans.
  • Deliver evidence-based rehabilitation programmes to maximise independence and functional recovery.
  • Provide specialist intervention for patients recovering from stroke and other neurological conditions.
  • Plan and coordinate safe, effective, and timely hospital discharges in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Recommend appropriate equipment, assistive technology, and environmental adaptations to support discharge and ongoing rehabilitation.
  • Work closely with Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses, Doctors, and Social Workers to deliver integrated care.
  • Provide education and advice to patients, carers, and families to support ongoing rehabilitation and self-management.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.
  • Contribute to delivering a high-quality, evidence-based Neuro and Stroke Occupational Therapy service.

About You

You will be an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with previous experience working within acute neuro and stroke rehabilitation services. You will be confident managing complex neurological caseloads, prioritising workload effectively, and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve excellent patient outcomes.

You will possess strong clinical reasoning, communication, and discharge planning skills, together with a commitment to delivering person-centred, evidence-based care.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Previous acute NHS Occupational Therapy experience.
  • Essential experience within neurology and stroke rehabilitation.
  • Excellent assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning skills.
  • Experience managing complex neurological caseloads.
  • Strong communication and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
  • Ability to work independently within a busy acute hospital environment.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
