Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within Sussex NHS. Working across sites in Brighton or Horsham with Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, this role is within the Wheelchair Therapy Service, supporting individuals with complex mobility needs through specialist assessment, prescription, and ongoing management of wheelchair and seating solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with experience in wheelchair services, community rehabilitation, or complex physical disability. You will work as part of a specialist multidisciplinary team to deliver person-centred interventions that maximise mobility, independence, comfort, and quality of life for service users of all ages.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments for individuals requiring wheelchair and seating services.
- Assess functional, postural, mobility, and environmental needs to determine appropriate wheelchair and seating solutions.
- Prescribe manual and powered wheelchairs, specialist seating, pressure care equipment, and associated accessories where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with service users, families, carers, and multidisciplinary colleagues to develop personalised mobility plans.
- Monitor and review wheelchair provision, ensuring equipment continues to meet clinical and functional needs.
- Provide education, training, and advice on the safe use and maintenance of prescribed equipment.
- Liaise with equipment suppliers, engineers, and community services to coordinate timely provision and ongoing support.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.
- Contribute to service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Work flexibly across Brighton and Horsham sites to support service delivery.
About You
You will be an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with experience in wheelchair services, complex physical disability, rehabilitation, or community Occupational Therapy. You will possess excellent assessment and clinical reasoning skills, together with a strong understanding of postural management, seating, and mobility needs.
You will be confident working independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Relevant UK NHS Occupational Therapy experience.
- Experience in wheelchair services, community rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, or physical disability is desirable.
- Knowledge of wheelchair assessment, seating, postural management, and specialist equipment provision.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
- Ability to manage a specialist caseload independently.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
