Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within North London Social Services. Based with the London Borough of Barnet, this role is within the West Locality Occupational Therapy Team, providing specialist community-based Occupational Therapy services to adults with complex needs.

This long-term assignment is to cover a one-year maternity leave and offers the opportunity to work within a highly experienced team specialising in major adaptations through the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) pathway, complex equipment provision, and manual handling assessments. The focus of the role is to support adults to remain safe, independent, and living well within their own homes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments within service users’ homes.
  • Assess functional ability and identify interventions that promote independence and reduce risk.
  • Recommend and arrange complex equipment, including specialist manual handling equipment.
  • Assess for and recommend minor and major housing adaptations through the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) pathway.
  • Develop person-centred intervention plans to maximise independence and support safe living at home.
  • Provide specialist advice to service users, carers, and partner agencies regarding equipment, adaptations, and safe moving and handling practices.
  • Work collaboratively with Social Workers, housing professionals, contractors, and multidisciplinary colleagues to coordinate effective interventions.
  • Manage a complex community caseload while maintaining high standards of clinical practice.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant case records and assessment documentation.
  • Contribute to the delivery of high-quality Occupational Therapy services within the West Locality Team.

About You

You will be an experienced HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with a strong background in Adult Social Care and community-based practice. You will have experience assessing adults within their own homes and be confident recommending complex equipment, manual handling solutions, and major adaptations through the DFG process.

You will be an excellent communicator with strong clinical reasoning skills and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience assessing adults within community settings.
  • Experience recommending specialist equipment, including manual handling equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) process and major adaptations.
  • Strong understanding of moving and handling principles.
  • Excellent assessment, report-writing, and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to manage a complex community caseload independently.
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
