Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 7 Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within South West London NHS. Based at West Middlesex University Hospital, part of Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, this role supports the Stroke and Neurology Services, delivering specialist rehabilitation for patients with stroke and other neurological conditions.

Working across the dedicated Stroke Team and medical wards caring for patients with neurological conditions, you will provide expert assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning for patients transferred from the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and major trauma centres. This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with strong neurological rehabilitation experience who enjoys working within a fast-paced acute hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and rehabilitation for patients with stroke and complex neurological conditions.
  • Manage a varied caseload across the Stroke Team and medical wards caring for neurological patients.
  • Deliver evidence-based rehabilitation programmes that maximise functional independence and recovery.
  • Undertake comprehensive functional, cognitive, perceptual, and environmental assessments.
  • Lead complex discharge planning to facilitate safe and timely transfers from hospital.
  • Support patients transferred from Hyper Acute Stroke Units (HASU) and major trauma centres through their rehabilitation journey.
  • Recommend appropriate equipment, adaptations, and ongoing rehabilitation needs.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, carers, and external agencies.
  • Work flexibly across stroke, neurology, and medical wards in response to service needs.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and best practice initiatives.

About You

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with a strong background in stroke rehabilitation, neurology, or acute inpatient services. You will be confident managing complex rehabilitation needs, coordinating discharge planning, and working autonomously within a busy multidisciplinary team.

You will possess excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills, together with a passion for supporting patients to achieve the highest possible level of independence following neurological illness or injury.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Significant experience within an acute NHS hospital setting.
  • Experience in stroke rehabilitation and/or neurology is highly desirable.
  • Strong discharge planning and complex rehabilitation experience.
  • Experience managing patients transferred from HASU or major trauma services is advantageous.
  • Excellent assessment, clinical reasoning, and case management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly across multiple clinical areas.
  • Strong multidisciplinary team-working and communication skills.
