Social Care Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Social Care Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within Yorkshire Social Services. Based with Kirklees Council, this role will support the delivery of key project work within the Occupational Therapy Service, helping vulnerable adults, their families, and carers achieve greater independence and improved wellbeing through person-centred, strengths-based interventions.

The Occupational Therapy team adopts flexible and creative approaches to practice, delivering environmental, rehabilitative, and Assistive Technology solutions that enable individuals to live as independently as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with experience in Learning Disabilities, Mental Health, Neurodiversity, and Dysregulation to make a meaningful impact within Adult Social Care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake person-centred Occupational Therapy assessments to identify physiological, psychological, environmental, and social needs.
  • Develop strengths-based and outcome-focused intervention plans that promote independence and wellbeing.
  • Manage an allocated caseload, supporting adults with complex needs and circumstances.
  • Work closely with individuals, families, and carers to co-produce support plans and identify meaningful outcomes.
  • Assess and recommend environmental solutions, rehabilitation interventions, Assistive Technology, equipment, and support services.
  • Support individuals to develop and maintain independent living skills and reduce risks associated with daily living.
  • Maintain accurate records and case management information using the Council’s electronic systems.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across housing, rehabilitation, health, social care, and assistive technology services.
  • Participate in supervision, peer support, and continuing professional development activities.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and support to colleagues and students where appropriate.
  • Contribute to service development and the delivery of high-quality Occupational Therapy practice.

About You

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with a strong background in Adult Social Care, particularly supporting adults with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health needs. You will understand the impact of neurodiversity and dysregulation and be confident delivering strengths-based interventions that promote independence and positive outcomes.

You will be a collaborative practitioner with excellent communication, assessment, and problem-solving skills, capable of managing a varied caseload while building strong relationships with individuals, families, carers, and partner agencies.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within Adult Social Care.
  • Experience supporting adults with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health needs.
  • Understanding of neurodiversity and dysregulation.
  • Knowledge of strengths-based and person-centred approaches to practice.
  • Experience undertaking complex assessments and developing outcome-focused support plans.
