Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced and proactive Band 6 Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within South West London NHS. The successful candidate will work across ICU, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Enhanced Care, and Surgical Wards, providing specialist assessment, rehabilitation, discharge planning, and occupational therapy interventions. This is an ideal opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with strong acute medicine experience and a particular interest in respiratory, critical care, and complex rehabilitation pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for patients across respiratory, cardiology, ICU, enhanced care, and surgical services.
  • Manage a varied caseload of patients with complex rehabilitation and discharge needs.
  • Provide specialist rehabilitation interventions for patients recovering from critical illness and post-ICU care.
  • Develop and implement person-centred treatment and discharge plans.
  • Support safe and timely discharge planning, working closely with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Assess functional abilities, cognitive needs, and equipment requirements to maximise independence.
  • Work flexibly across designated clinical areas according to service demands.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings and coordinate care plans to support positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.
  • Work autonomously, prioritising workload effectively within a fast-paced acute environment.

About You

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with a background in acute hospital services, ideally including respiratory medicine, critical care, surgery, cardiology, or general medicine.

You will possess excellent discharge planning skills, strong clinical reasoning, and the ability to work independently under pressure while managing complex rehabilitation cases. Experience supporting patients transitioning from ICU to acute wards would be highly advantageous.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Significant experience within an acute NHS hospital setting.
  • Strong discharge planning and complex rehabilitation experience.
