Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 7 Advanced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within North East London NHS. Based at Wood Street, Waltham Forest with NELFT, this specialist role supports the Social Services Occupational Therapy team, delivering expert assessments for children with complex needs and providing clinical leadership to junior colleagues.
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced Children’s Social Services Occupational Therapist with expertise in equipment provision, major adaptations, and complex moving and handling. You will play a key role in assessing home environments, promoting independence, supporting junior staff, and contributing to major adaptations planning for children and young people with complex disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake specialist Occupational Therapy assessments for new referrals within the Children’s Social Services Occupational Therapy service.
- Assess home environments to identify needs relating to access, safety, independence, and functional ability.
- Recommend specialist equipment, environmental adaptations, and moving and handling solutions.
- Assess and prescribe specialist seating and postural management equipment for children with complex needs.
- Complete onward referrals and prepare detailed clinical reports to support intervention planning.
- Attend and contribute to Major Adaptations Panel meetings as required.
- Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and support to junior Occupational Therapy staff.
- Work collaboratively with families, education, health professionals, housing teams, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Apply the Care Act and Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) process when assessing and recommending adaptations.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and organisational standards.
About You
You will be an experienced HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with a strong background in Children’s Social Services Occupational Therapy. You will have extensive experience assessing children with complex disabilities and be confident recommending specialist equipment, major adaptations, and postural management solutions while providing clinical leadership to colleagues.
You will possess excellent assessment, communication, and clinical reasoning skills, together with a commitment to delivering high-quality, child-centred Occupational Therapy services.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Extensive Children’s Occupational Therapy experience.
- Direct experience working within Social Services Occupational Therapy.
- Strong knowledge of the Care Act and the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) process.
- Experience assessing for major adaptations and specialist equipment provision.
- Experience with specialist seating, postural management, and moving and handling for children with complex needs.
- Experience supporting and mentoring junior Occupational Therapy staff.
- Excellent assessment, report-writing, communication, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
