Job Overview

An experienced Occupational Therapist (Band 6/7) is urgently required to work within a 25-bed male Medium Secure Mental Health Hospital. The service consists of three wards:

     

  • Acute Care Ward – 10 beds
     

  • Rehabilitation Ward – 10 beds
     

  • Extra Care / Admissions Ward – 5 beds

The post holder will manage a specialist inpatient caseload across all three wards and take responsibility for the full Occupational Therapy process for allocated patients. JD available on request.

Key Responsibilities

     

  • Manage a specialist caseload of inpatients across the medium secure unit.
     

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments and deliver evidence-based interventions.
     

  • Be responsible for the Occupational Therapy process for patients on the caseload.
     

  • Plan, organise and facilitate a range of Occupational Therapy interventions across all wards.
     

  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities appropriately to other members of the Occupational Therapy team.
     

  • Provide supervision and support to unregistered Occupational Therapy staff.
     

  • Offer guidance and advice to staff from other professional disciplines as required.
     

  • Prepare and contribute to a range of professional reports and documentation, including:
       

           

    • Ward rounds and professional meetings
           

    • Mental Health Measure Care and Treatment Planning meetings
           

    • Therapeutic planning meetings
           

    • Planning and referral meetings
         

     

Skills & Experience Required

     

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist with current HCPC registration.
     

  • Experience working within Mental Health Services.
     

  • Forensic Mental Health experience desirable.
     

  • Experience using standardised and non-standardised Occupational Therapy assessments.
     

  • Experience in planning and delivering therapeutic interventions.
     

  • Previous experience supervising staff.
     

  • Strong communication, organisational and report-writing skills.

Working Hours

     

  • Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00
     

  • Full time preferred
     

  • Part time hours considered
