Brief Job Overview

An experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist is required to join the Acute Medical Unit at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. This is a fast-paced inpatient role, ideal for an occupational therapist who is confident managing acute medical caseloads and supporting effective patient flow and discharge planning within an NHS hospital setting.

The role offers some flexibility around working patterns, with consideration given to longer shifts across fewer days, subject to service need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy assessment and intervention within a busy Acute Medical Unit.
  • Support safe and timely discharge planning in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Assess functional ability and recommend appropriate interventions to promote independence.
  • Manage and prioritise a dynamic caseload in a fast-paced acute environment.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in line with Trust and professional standards.
  • Contribute to effective MDT communication to support patient outcomes and service flow.

About You

You will be a confident and adaptable Occupational Therapist with proven experience in acute NHS settings. You will be comfortable working at pace, using sound clinical judgement, and engaging effectively with patients, families, and professionals across the hospital.
 

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC registration (essential).
  • Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience.
  • Recent NHS acute hospital experience (essential).
  • Experience working on an Acute Medical Unit or similar inpatient setting.
  • Strong assessment, discharge planning, and communication skills.

Contract & Working Pattern

  • Locum contract – ongoing
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00
  • Flexible working considered (longer days across 3–4 days per week)
  • Competitive rate – £negotiable
