Location: Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust – Torbay Hospital

Area: Devon NHS

Rate: £Negotiable

Contract: Locum, Ongoing (initial 6 weeks)

 

About the Role

 

An experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist is required to support Acute Occupational Therapy within Urgent & Emergency Care at Torbay Hospital. This role is based across acute medical and surgical wards and includes providing cover within the Emergency Department and short-stay wards. The post holder will manage a complex and demanding caseload, focusing on safe and timely discharges to support patient flow and prevent re-admission.

 

Main Responsibilities

 

  • Provide acute occupational therapy assessment and intervention within medical and surgical wards.
  • Support Urgent & Emergency Care, including ED and short-stay wards.
  • Manage a highly complex caseload, prioritising risk and discharge needs.
  • Contribute to safe and timely discharge planning to support hospital flow.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to avoid unnecessary admissions and re-admissions.
  • Support, supervise and delegate work to junior members of the therapy team as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with Trust and HCPC standards.

 

Skills & Experience Required

 

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy and HCPC registration.
  • Significant experience working within acute hospital settings.
  • Experience in Urgent & Emergency Care and discharge planning.
  • Ability to manage complex and challenging caseloads.
  • Experience supervising and supporting junior staff.
  • Strong communication, organisation and clinical reasoning skills.

 

Working Hours

 

  • Full time preferred.
  • Shift pattern: 08:00 – 16:00.
