Senior Occupational Therapist – Band 6 (Locum)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Senior Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital within the South East London NHS. This locum opportunity is available to start as soon as possible and focuses on delivering high-quality occupational therapy within a fast-paced acute physical health setting. You will play a key role in supporting patient flow, timely discharge, and functional recovery within an inpatient environment.

Key Responsibilities

  •   
    • Undertake comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for patients within an acute physical health setting.
       

    • Plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based interventions to promote independence, safety, and functional recovery.
       

    • Support timely discharge planning through effective functional assessment and close multidisciplinary working.
       

    • Work collaboratively with doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and social care colleagues to deliver coordinated care.
       

    • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with Trust and HCPC standards.
       

    • Apply sound clinical reasoning to manage a varied and often complex acute caseload.
       

    • Contribute positively to service delivery within a busy, fast-moving hospital environment.

     

    About You

    You are a confident and motivated Occupational Therapist with strong acute physical health experience. You will have excellent assessment and decision-making skills and thrive in fast-paced clinical environments where effective prioritisation and teamwork are essential. With a minimum of two years post-qualification experience, you will bring professionalism, adaptability, and a strong commitment to patient-centred care.

    Requirements

     

    •  
      • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
         

      • Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience.
         

      • Essential experience working within acute physical health services.
         

      • Experience in fast-paced hospital environments is highly desirable.
         

      • Strong clinical reasoning, documentation, and communication skills.
         

      • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

        • Job Type: Locum
           

        • Band: 6
           

        • Contract Length: Ongoing
           

        • Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00)
           

        • Location: Queen Elizabeth Hospital – Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust

        • Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience
