Brief Job Overview
  
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 6 Acute Occupational Therapist to join the Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, working across both Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital in Surrey.  
This is a locum role for an Occupational Therapist with solid acute experience who is confident managing a busy inpatient caseload and contributing to effective discharge planning. You’ll play a vital role in promoting recovery, independence, and safe discharge for patients within the acute hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, intervention, and discharge planning for patients within acute wards.
 - Manage an acute OT caseload effectively across both hospital sites, prioritising care based on clinical need.
 - Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to facilitate timely discharge and promote patient independence.
 - Conduct functional assessments and recommend suitable rehabilitation, equipment, or adaptations to support recovery and safe discharge.
 - Contribute to early supported discharge planning and liaise with community services to ensure continuity of care.
 - Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice in all interventions and care planning.
 - Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with Trust policies and HCPC professional standards.
 - Participate in service development initiatives to enhance patient flow and quality of care within the acute setting.
 - Work flexibly across both Epsom and St Helier Hospital sites as required.
 - Provide guidance and support to junior staff and students where appropriate.
 
About You
  
You are an experienced and confident Occupational Therapist with a strong background in acute care. You thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment, bringing excellent organisational, communication, and clinical skills to support effective discharge planning and patient-centred outcomes. You are proactive, adaptable, and committed to collaborative multidisciplinary working.
Requirements
- Qualified Occupational Therapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
 - Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience, with acute hospital experience essential.
 - Proven ability to manage a varied acute caseload and deliver timely, high-quality interventions.
 - Strong understanding of discharge planning processes and community liaison pathways.
 - Excellent communication and teamwork skills within multidisciplinary hospital teams.
 - Sound clinical reasoning and evidence-based decision-making.
 - Ability to work flexibly across multiple hospital sites (Epsom and St Helier).
 - Commitment to patient-centred practice and continuous professional development.

 - Salary: £Negotiable, dependent on experience
 - Working Hours: 7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday
 - Working Pattern: On-site, cross-site working required
