Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Occupational Therapist to join Wokingham Borough Council’s Housing and Social Services team in Berkshire. This locum position focuses on assessing residents’ needs and recommending suitable housing adaptations that promote safety, accessibility, and independence.
You will use your professional expertise to identify and implement effective solutions that enable people to live independently in their homes, working closely with service users, families, contractors, and partner agencies. Key Responsibilities

- Undertake comprehensive occupational therapy assessments of residents’ functional abilities and environmental needs within their homes.
- Recommend and specify housing adaptations that meet assessed needs, ensuring they promote safety, wellbeing, and independence.
- Work within the relevant legal frameworks and guidance related to housing and social care, including the Care Act and the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act.
- Advise on and process Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) in line with national and local policy.
- Liaise with housing officers, contractors, surveyors, and other professionals to ensure effective design, planning, and delivery of adaptations.
- Provide clear, evidence-based recommendations for equipment, minor works, and major adaptations.
- Promote a strength-based approach that encourages independence and supports residents to remain safely in their homes.
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to multi-agency meetings to ensure coordinated service delivery.

You are a qualified and confident Occupational Therapist with a strong understanding of housing adaptations and environmental accessibility. You combine sound clinical reasoning with practical problem-solving skills and can communicate complex information clearly to residents, carers, and partner agencies. Requirements

- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy with current HCPC registration.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of housing adaptations and Disabled Facilities Grants.
- Experience of conducting home and environmental assessments and developing appropriate adaptation plans.
- Full UK or EU driving licence and access to a car for daily use.
- Excellent communication, report-writing, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
Contract & Salary

- Position: Locum Occupational Therapist (Housing)
- Location: Wokingham Borough Council – Shute End, Berkshire
- Pay rate: £38 per hour (Umbrella)
- Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 09:00 – 17:00)
- Contract length: Ongoing
