Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Core OT Service at Coventry City Council – The Opal Centre in the West Midlands Social Services area. This community-based role focuses on delivering occupational therapy interventions that enhance clients’ safety, independence, and overall wellbeing in their homes. Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you’ll conduct assessments, develop personalised support plans, and recommend adaptations or rehabilitation programmes that empower individuals to live independently and confidently. This position offers hybrid working, with a minimum of two days in the office.

Key Responsibilities

  •
    • Undertake comprehensive therapy assessments and create outcome-focused support plans to promote independence and safety.

    • Provide person-centred interventions, including rehabilitation, advice, and equipment provision, to enable clients to achieve daily living goals.

    • Carry out advanced moving and handling assessments and deliver tailored recommendations in line with Manual Handling Regulations 1992.

    • Offer expert advice and practical guidance to clients, carers, and families to maximise functional ability and wellbeing.

    • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional records using computerised systems, producing clear assessment reports and documentation.

    • Work collaboratively with health and social care partners to deliver integrated support and effective service outcomes.

    • Manage your own caseload effectively, using sound clinical judgement and time management to prioritise tasks independently.

    About You

You are a confident and compassionate Occupational Therapist who is passionate about supporting individuals to live independently and safely at home. You’ll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with advanced moving and handling expertise. Your ability to manage a varied caseload, apply legislative frameworks, and deliver evidence-based interventions will ensure you thrive in this rewarding community role.

    Requirements

    •
      • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

      • Experience working in community-based settings within adult social care or health services.

      • Strong understanding of the Care Act 2014 and Manual Handling Regulations 1992.

      • Advanced moving and handling skills with the ability to apply safe and effective practice.

      • Excellent assessment, planning, and report-writing skills, with proficiency in computerised record systems.

      • Ability to work autonomously and manage a dynamic caseload effectively.

      • Car driver preferred, though the role is accessible via public transport.
